AI Chatbots Are “Hallucinating” Reality

Artificial Intelligence built upon Large Language Models (LLMs) – so-called Deep Learning AIs – have been embedded overnight into the technology of virtually every platform – giving the appearance of a superintelligence with human-like emotions that can comprehend and process enormous amounts of data, and even carry the persona of feeling.
But in reality, this technology understands nothing. Yet, people have projected their own humanity onto an algorithm of complex gobbledygook and trusted it to yield understanding.
Now, cases are popping up everywhere of AI hallucinations — cases where professionals and experts have used Chatbots to do their work for them, and it has produced false citations, information that is not only wrong, but which is entirely invented from whole cloth. This strange phenomenon is fairly common, and it is infiltrating official institutions along with our everyday lives.
And, in the case of ChatGPT, the hallucinations are getting worse with each new version, and not by a little but a lot.
What is perhaps most startling is that people hold such unwavering faith and trust in this technology’s abilities to make them smarter, while it might actually be doing the exact opposite.
How illusive is our future…
People talk about the woke mind virus. Ha. Well, what about this? How is this not a virus?
It’s certainly behaving like one.
P.S. — Like the art? Well, Mel there’s a tee.
